Burma-Shave
Those Burma-Shave signs, remember them? I thought they were completely gone long ago, but I happened upon a string of them on a drive out West a couple months ago. A relic of a time when driving a long distance … Continue reading
Mintonette anyone? How about Hooverball?
Yes, Mintonette. That was almost the name for what we now know as volleyball. And how do I know that? Because I drove past this sign. And then I took a stroll on the internet. Where I unearthed Hooverball too. … Continue reading

A well-used car lot
I find some interesting places in my meanderings. Happy to share this one, the Wilson and Steely Kustom Coachworks in Athol, MA.

A two-sheet curling club
I know about curling, of course. It’s that funny Olympic sport where grown men slide an object with a handle on it down the ice and other grown men run in front of it with brooms, sweeping like crazy. But … Continue reading
War Office
Approaching Lebanon, CT, on Route 87 the other day I encountered this sign: OK, I guess maybe in these times if you live in a town called Lebanon, you’d want to be prepared. Especially if you’re just down the road … Continue reading
