I visited the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA, today and saw lots of places where I’d like to be served breakfast as the sun rises on a cool summer morning. That’s the Pacific Ocean off in the distance.
If you’re out that way it is well worth a visit. It’s a popular place for tourists and booking a tour in advance is definitely necessary and easy to do on the website.

WOW! Just WOW!

We were there YEARS ago – a very impressive spot. Yeah, I could breakfast there!

Wow is right! It’s a gorgeous setting and amazing structures/grounds. Really great that you took the time to go down there from SF.
Beth, Amy (at 2), and I visited Hearst in late ’79 or early ’80. It was during that 2-year period when I worked at Merced, CA (center of state), as a resident engineer during construction of the City’s new Wastewater Treatment Plant and effluent land application facilities.
Seems LONG ago now. I just remember that the coast was really pretty and the estate was awe-inspiring.
I agree. A bit out of the way — unless driving coastal route from SF to LA for some reason — but worth the time/effort.
